Golf Courses on the Garden Route

Garden Route, South Africa

The Garden Route is fast becoming a golfers paradise. This area features the most spectacular golf courses in South Africa Pinnacle Point and Pezula offer dramatic cliff top golf while Simola and St Francis Links offer unparalleled views. The amazing Fancourt golf resort with it's four courses is a golfers paradise.

Golf can be enjoyed all year round on the Garden Route.

Green-fees are generally the same throughout the year.

Our favourite Garden Route golf courses are shown below.

Pezula Golf Course

Star Rating
Pezula Golf Course in Cape Winelands

Green fees approx : May-Oct £59 Nov-Apr £71
Garden Route golf course, Par 72 – 6281m

This championship links style golf course lies high above the heaving Indian Ocean and the vast Knysna lagoon - a sweeping spectacle of fairways and greens rolling through the pristine indigenous landscape. The terrain of rolling fairways, fynbos and eyebrow bunkers make the course difficult to walk making the use of golf carts a necessity. One of the top courses in South Africa and we highly recommend playing here on your golf holiday.

Fancourts Montagu Golf Course

Garden Route golf course, Par 72 – 5981m

This modern course with a mature parkland feel, is considered one of the best conditioned courses in South Africa. It is cleverly designed, picturesque, and presents an enjoyable challenge to all levels of golfers. One of our favourite courses, to play here you have to stay be a hotel resident. Serious golfers will love Fancourt and it is the ideal base for a Garden Route golfing holiday in South Africa.

Fancourts Outeniqua Golf Course

Named after the mountain range that runs along the garden route, this parkland resort course has aesthetically pleasing design features such as rivulets and colourful gardens. Like its neighbour, the Montague, it is in magnificent condition year round and is open to hotel residents only. The views from the fairways, the knowledgeable caddies and the quality of the course combine to make this a must play course when on a golf holiday in South Africa.

Fancourts Links Golf Course

Star Rating
Fancourts Links Golf Course in the Garden Route

Green fees approx : May-Oct £97 Nov-Apr £97
Garden Route golf course, Par 72 – 6154m

This man made typical links course presents undulating windswept terrain and a dune–style landscape, each hole having received detailed attention to ensure that the overall balance in terms of length, position of hazards and shot values are in harmony. Possible the most difficult course in South Africa and also one of the most exclusive and if you want to include it in your golf holiday at Fancourt we recommend booking well in advance.

George Golf Club

Star Rating
George Golf Club in the Garden Route

Green fees approx : May-Oct £36 Nov-Apr £36
Garden Route golf course, Par 72 – 6102m

With so many golf courses along the Garden Route to choose from you might think that the George Golf club is just another course. Consistently rated in the top ten in the South Africa this is a real gem. George is a combination of parklands and woodlands layout with well-established trees. The course is in a forest and the surrounding natural vegetation together with backdrop of the Outeniqua mountains makes a beautiful setting.

Plettenberg Bay Golf Club

Star Rating
Plettenberg Bay Golf Club in the Garden Route

Green fees approx : May- Oct £29 Nov-Apr £29
Garden Route golf course, Par 72 - 5926m

The Plettenberg Bay Golf Club is one of the golf courses ideally located for holidaymakers that flock to the coast to relax, unwind and suntan on the beaches whilst enjoying the luxury hotels in the Plettenberg area. The Plettenberg Bay golf course is set in a proclaimed nature reserve - generously wide kikuyu fairways wind themselves through thick vegetation and beautiful trees. The course is also rich in birdlife, and sometimes the odd monkey.

St Francis Links

Star Rating
St Francis Links in the Garden Route

Green fees approx : May-Oct £53 Nov-Apr £53
Garden Route Golf Course

We have played this new course and know that it will quickly rocket up the ratings and become one of South Africa’s finest courses. Jack Nicklaus has moulded a fantastic piece of links land and made something unique. St Francis Links carries a look and feel that breathes history from times gone by and will challenge all who play it. The town of St Francis is well placed en route to or from an Eastern Cape safari.

Pinnacle Point Golf Course

Star Rating
Pinnacle Point Golf Course in the Garden Route.

Green fees approx : May-Oct £62 Nov-Apr £62
Garden Route golf course, Par 72 – 6084m

Located near Mossel Bay along the Garden Route in South Africa. Having played the Darren Clarke designed Pinnacle Point Golf Course we agree with those who rate it comparable with the best in the world and truly is a design masterpiece. The views are awe inspiring, with dramatic coastal views of the ocean from all area’s of the course. The natural beauty of the indigenous flora and fauna complete this unique golfing experience.

Oubaai Golf Course

Star Rating
Oubaai Golf Course in the Garden Route.

Green fees approx : May-Oct £53 Nov-Apr £53
Garden Route golf course, Par 72 – m

Five miles from George is the Ernie Els designed Oubaai 18-hole golf course. Ernie took full advantage of the spectacular site that has panoramic views of the Indian Ocean and the Gwaing River Valley. Ernie’s approach to golf course design is centred around flexibility. Concepts are moulded according to the landscape and not vice versa. Furthermore the courses fairly display challenges and hazards whilst affording players the opportunity to use a full range of shots.

Simola Golf Course

Star Rating
Simola Golf Course in the Garden Route.

Green fees approx : May-Oct £50 Nov-Apr £59
Garden Route golf course, Par 72 - m

If your golf holiday in South Africa includes the Knysna on the Garden Route we recommend you play at Simola. Set high inland, Simola Golf Club, designed by Jack Nicklaus, offers stunning views across the lagoon. A good test whatever your standard of play, the course winds through two valleys and golf carts are a must. The second tee is in an elevated position and we loved the hang-time driving down into the valley.
